GROUNDWATER EVALUATION PROGRAM

The Groundwater Evaluation (GWE) Program was funded1 by the Department of Energy (DOE) to support studies for characterization of water resources in southern Nye County.  The grant was initiated in April 2006.

The GWE Program activities were developed in consultation with Desert Research Institute (DRI), the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and the DOE. These projects will provide important data for Nye County and the other project agencies, as well as other stakeholders in the region, including the National Park Service (NPS), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Nevada Division of Water Resources.

Nye County is conducting studies under the following four primary areas of investigation:

Water Resource Characterization and Monitoring

Water Resource Sustainability

Water Quality Protection, and

Resource Management

Data collected under the GWE Program are posted for download after completion of data quality reviews.
