RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

EVALUATE WATER QUALITY AND EXISTING WATER SUPPLIES IN LATHROP WELLS AREA

  • Goal is to find sustainable water supply to support development in the area

  • Difficulties include low-yield wells and high Arsenic concentrations

MANAGEMENT COORDINATION

  • Funding for coordination of water management with other major stakeholders in the region, including White Pine, Elko, Eureka, Lander, and Esmeralda Counties, as well as Nevada Division of Water Resources

SPECIFIC TASKS

  • Evaluation of Management Alternatives.  One of the major challenges to development in the Lathrop Wells area is availability and quality of groundwater.  Several wells have been drill in the area that have extremely low yields (i.e., several gallons per minute) and very poor quality water (i.e., Arsenic concentrations several times the Safe Drinking Water Act standard).  Nye County has implemented a study of wells in the area and local development requirements to determine what current water use needs are, and how best to meet those needs.
